The latest version of DJI’s popular gimbal camera adds an impressively wide range of new features for a $519 price point.
Available as of right now, the third iteration of DJI’s Osmo Pocket is equipped with a 1-inch CMOS sensor, a definite upgrade on the previous model’s 1/1.7 inches, to deliver high-resolution footage in various scenarios, low-noise night shots, high-dynamic range capabilities in high-contrast scenarios, and support for 4K/120fps.
An upgraded 2-inch OLED screen delivers richer colors and higher contrast, clearer details, and both horizontal and vertical shots can be displayed on full screen. Users can simply double-tap their subject on the screen to start tracking or rotate the screen to quickly power on or off the device, greatly optimizing their shooting experience. Pocket 3 also features built-in Wi-Fi for direct connection to a smartphone without the Do-It-All Handle.
ActiveTrack has been upgraded to 6.0, and with the new Face Auto-Detect mode, users can effortlessly record single-person vlogs. After the subject enters the frame, the camera will automatically recognize and smoothly track them throughout the shooting process to keep them at the center.
A new Dynamic Framing mode, means users don’t need to hold and move the device to keep the subject in the center or the required position, it’s done automatically
For professional-level creations, the Osmo Pocket 3 offers 10-bit D-Log M and 10-bit HLG color modes that record landscapes with remarkable detail, presenting accurate colors and vivid highlights.
Full-pixel fast focusing ensures sharp focus, even with quick-moving subjects, and the unit introduces a Product Showcase mode for smooth live streaming and product showcasing. With three-axis mechanical stabilization, steady images are practicable even during dynamic camera movements.
ActiveTrack 6.0 offers multiple follow modes, including Face Auto-Detect and Dynamic Framing, for cinematic-level footage. The built-in three-mic array reduces wind noise and captures omnidirectional stereo sound. DJI Mic 2 compatibility enables dual-person recording for vlogs, interviews, and livestreams.
Elsewhere, the Glamour Effects 2.0 adds personalized beauty options, while Osmo Pocket 3's automatic axis locks secure the gimbal in storage position.
Usefully, Osmo Pocket 3 can be charged to 80% in just 16 minutes. When fully charged, it can record up to 116 minutes of 4K/60fps footage or up to 166 minutes of 1080p/24fps footage.
