Extremely massive IBC2023 news round up - Part Two

More news from the IBC2023 show floor, today featuring: Brainstorm, RED,  LucidLink, Teradek, AIDA, Hollyland, DoPchoice, MRMC, Toshiba, and AWS.

Brainstorm is celebrating 30 years in the business at its 25th IBC, and promises some spectacular demos on Stand 7.C46. The main demo will display advanced, photorealistic augmented and mixed reality content in a ‘highly visually engaging presentation’, by using a combination of chroma sets and shaped LED videowalls, provided by Alfalite, the European LED manufacturer, and featuring real-time, seamless extra-render and set extension with color-matching 3D LUTs, in-context AR motion graphics, fully immersive talent tele-transport, multi-background content and much more. It’s a lot, but the company’s InfinitySet seems up to the task. 

Also, watch for the latest developments in its Edison Ecosystem, a complete system that transforms any live or online presentation into an immersive experience by using AR and virtual environments. And Brainstorm and MOOV will feature a daily session at 13.00, looking at the ongoing ITV Sport Rugby World Cup project, which uses extensive virtual elements and, to which, several members of the RedShark team are absolutely glued.

RED doesn’t have a stand itself at IBC, but is present on — at the last count — 15 others. Its chief news at the show is the latest update to the breakthrough RED Connect offering and the ability to easily output a standardized SMPTE ST 2110-22 JPEG-XS 4K 60P stream over IP networks. That means productions can simply integrate RED into an IP broadcast environment with the help of NMOS camera discovery and management (AMWA), PTP synchronization (SMPTE ST 2059-2) and return video (SMPTE ST 2110-20) with VSF TR-08.

See it over at Matrox Video (7.B15), where it will be showcased in tandem with Matrox ConvertIP two-way SMPTE ST 2110 converters. 

We talked about LucidLink (3.B67) when we examined cloud-based platforms to soup up editing workflows recently, and now it's showcasing its first integration for a creative application. Adobe Premiere Pro is its choice, and this first integration of Lucidlink Filespaces within a creative tool will allow creative editors to preemptively cache just the media needed in their edit from directly within the Premiere Pro application.

Additional key features of the LucidLink Panel for Adobe Premiere Pro include: Proxy and High-Resolution Workflow Intelligence, allowing users to tailor their cache to high-res, proxy, or both, ensuring a seamless offline to online editorial workflow without needing to download or duplicate enormous amounts of camera-original; and Optimized Performance, allowing them to easily optimize Premiere Pro settings for peak performance with a simple, one-touch adjustment. The new panel will also indicate when content is not in a Filespace during the pinning or caching process.

The European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK) have officially approved the 6GHz frequency band tutilized in Teradek’s (7.C10) Bolt 6 Series of products, ushering in a new era of low-interference, zero-delay wireless connectivity for European productions. Existing Bolt 6 users can now harness the full potential of their systems with a free firmware upgrade, immediately enabling operation in the newly-approved 6GHz frequency band while preserving compatibility with Bolt 4K systems in 5GHz.

NDI camera specialist AIDA (12.H78) has an overabundance of cameras launching at the show. The Next Gen 4K POV UHD-NDI3-300, UHD-NDI3-IP67, and UHD-NDI3-X30 cameras come equipped with a Sony EXMOR CMOS sensor. The compact yet formidable UHD-NDI3-300 camera is purpose-built for space-constrained applications; and the UHD-NDI3-IP67 commands attention with its IP67 rating, enabling effortless 4K NDI HX or FHD HX3 video capture over ethernet in even the harshest environments. Both cameras feature a versatile CS-interchangeable lens system. Meanwhile, the UHD-NDI3-X30 flaunts an astonishing 30x optical zoom, delivering impeccable video quality from distances of up to 150ft / 50m.

Hollyland (11.B34) is majoring on its VenusLiv live streaming camera, which combines high-quality wireless video with easy operation and portability. VenusLiv users can almost instantly start streaming live to multiple platforms with one tap, without the hassle of complex installation and configuration, which is just what many of them want. VenusLiv works excellently with Hollyland’s LARK series wireless microphone system, such as LARK MAX, LARK C1 and so on, to deliver clear, stable sound quality. VenusLiv also has a Type-C port, which can be connected directly to LARK C1. LARK MAX can also be used as a standalone wireless microphone for other devices.

On the lighting side of things, DoPchoice is displaying new patented light-directing solutions on various stands throughout the RAI, notably the Astera (12.G44) and Pipe Lighting (12.A10) stands. There they can find Astera’s LeoFresnel which comes with a Rabbit-Rounder adapter, ready to accept the range of DoPchoice Rectangular, Octagonal, Dome and Lantern Snapbags as well as Snapgrids for most configurations. Meanwhile, to add extra control for Pipe Lighting, visitors can check out the line of versatile new Snapgrids that quickly install via hook and loop to provide added light direction for these smart new inflatable fixtures.

Nikon-owned MRMC (11.C26) has launched the SR-1, a new pan-tilt head designed for use in locations that are inaccessible or hazardous for camera operators. The compact and lightweight SR-1 is designed to be easy to transport, set up, mount, and control. It is compatible with Nikon cameras, including the Z9, D5 and D6 and supports a payload of up to 4kg. The head has an axis speed of 30 degrees per second and a pan range of approximately 120 degrees. The system is camera and lens-agnostic giving users more choice and flexibility to use equipment they already own. The SR-1 has full IP control, is controllable via MRMC’s MHC or third-party systems and is compatible with MRMC’s Polymotion Chat automated tracking software.

Toshiba (6.A27) is demoing a system based on Toshiba’s MG10 20TB HDDs and capable of up to 1.2 petabytes (1200 TB) of raw storage. At the heart of the system are 60 of Toshiba’s 3.5” 20TB SAS MG10SCA HDDs, which feature Toshiba’s fourth-generation, 10-disk helium-sealed design to advance Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR) density to 2TB per disk. 

And finally for today, AWS (5.C90) has announced that AWS Elemental Link UHD now supports AWS Elemental MediaConnect. Previously, Link could only connect to AWS Elemental MediaLive as a channel input. While AWS says customers loved this capability, they wanted to extend the ease of contribution to other AWS Media Services. With MediaConnect support for Link UHD, they can now enjoy the same ease of connection model to send video to the cloud. This opens up Link UHD to more use cases such as low-latency contribution, monitoring, and distribution where additional transcoding may not be required.
