It's been a while since the last firmware update to the Panasonic Lumix GH6 micro four thirds camera, but v2.3 adds RAW output over HDMI to the Blackmagic Design External Recorder and 4K120p/100p over HDMI.
To be accurate, it was September last year that v2.2 dropped and added support for SSD recording over USB, so it's good to see that Panasonic hasn't forgotten its MFT video powerhouse. So, from 14.00 UTC today, users will be able to download v2.3 from the Panasonic website and add:
1. RAW Video Output over HDMI to Blackmagic Design External Recorder
- [5.7K] [C4K], [Anamorphic (4:3) 5.8K], [Anamorphic (4:3) 4.4K] 12-bit RAW video data can now be output over HDMI to the Blackmagic Video Assist 5” 12G HDR and Blackmagic Video Assist 7” 12G HDR, where it will be recorded as Blackmagic RAW.
As well as the limited number of resolutions, there are a few caveats here. When recording in 4K 120p/100p or 5.7K 60p/50p, a constant bitrate of 5:1 or less is recommended for SSD recording and 8:1 or less for SD card recording. The firmware also adds:

- When video quality is set to C4K 120p/100p or 4K 120p/100p, video output to an external device over HDMI at C4K 120p/100p or 4K 120p/100p is possible.
- [Power Save Live View] function has been added.
All of which is rather nice if you already have one and could be the incentive you need to pick one up if you already have the Blackmagic kit as part of your setup. If the latter is you, it's perhaps worth hunting around as there are several deals floating around on the camera at the moment that should be able to see you pick it up at $500 under the launch price at the $1700 mark, at least in the US.
